Learn what a journey with SPS looks like

Medical Evaluation

After the surrogate and intended parents have decided to work together, the surrogate will have a medical evaluation with the IPs’ fertility doctor to confirm she meets all health requirements for surrogacy.

2

Legal Agreements

Once the surrogate has received medical clearance from the doctor, it’s time to draft a legal contract. Each party will have their own attorney to safeguard their legal interests throughout the process. Your attorney will guide you through the legal aspects of surrogacy, covering everything from compensation to potential risks.

3

Preparing for pregnancy

Once the contracts are signed, the trust account has been funded and legal clearance has been given to the reproductive endocrinologist, the medication can be started for the cycle. The case manager will accompany the surrogate to all her fertility appointments. She provides support and helps guide the surrogate through the process. The case manager also keeps the intended parents updated when they cannot attend the appointments themselves.

4

Mental Health Profesional

At SPS, the mental and emotional well-being of our surrogates is a top priority. Each surrogate not only completes a psychological screening as part of the approval process, but she also attends monthly group meetings with other surrogates led by a mental health professional that specializes in third-party pregnancies. These sessions help surrogates navigate the emotional ups and downs of the process and give them a sense of community during their journey.

The Pregnancy

The surrogate’s pregnancy will be similar to her previous pregnancies, but she will have the support of the intended parents and case manager every step of the way. On the medical side, she will be under the care of a maternal-fetal specialist. The case manager will be there to support both the IPs and the surrogate through the entire pregnancy; to facilitate in making appointments, ensuring medical instructions are understood, and for answering any questions either party has during the pregnancy.

The Delivery

The most joyful stage of the surrogacy process—the birth of the baby—is truly a life-changing event for both the intended parents and the surrogate.

Prior to the delivery, our childbirth educator guides surrogates and IPs through the childbirth process, helps them understand what to expect during and after the birth, and discusses both parties’ desires for the birth.

Your case manager will be there to offer support and navigate crucial experiences, such as facilitating skin-to-skin contact with your newborn and securing a private room when available. They’ll also oversee the completion of all necessary legal documents, ensuring the IPs’ names are correctly listed as the legal parents on the birth certificate.

This thoughtful preparation and support helps create a smooth and positive birth experience for all parties.
